What is Counselling & who am I ?
It's usually done on a one to basis (apart from couples, or family therapy), once a week and lasts for 50 minutes, often it's a huge step for a person to make the decision to come and talk about what it is that's affecting their every day lives. Counselling is done in safe, confidential surroundings where you can come and explore whatever it is that's affecting the way you function, alone and/or with others.
Being listened to with acceptance and without judgement with a person who is there to support you for however long you need to explore those thoughts and feelings through that journey, it's your journey and so how long therapy lasts is for how long you need it. It's a collaborative effort between the counsellor (me) and client (you) helping you to identify what it is you need to talk about to allow you a more free way of being in life.
I started counselling seven years ago, and since then I have worked for a couple of charities,I am now in my own private practice and I love what counselling is about and offers and hope to share this with you. I have experienced counselling for myself so know first hand what it's like on that first initial meeting, I am a genuine empathetic person who knows that life can very often throw that curve ball that knocks us temporarily off balance, it's during these times that talking things through with someone who doesn't know you and can listen without that judgement, being totally accepting and help guide you through that difficult period really does help.
My qualifications are:
Staffordshire University Professional Diploma - Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Stoke on Trent College Counselling Skills
Stoke on Trent College Introduction to Counselling Skills
I also have attended a number of CPD (Continued Professional Development) workshops, and this is ongoing so that I can keep up to date with my skills and training.
